Starting at the age of 3, Angie, better known as “Willie” began her training in Chicago at Mayfair Academy of Fine Arts. She later studied Joel Hall Dance Center under the direction of Joel Hall and Vanessa Truvillion. She excelled in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, Modern, and African dancing. Angie has performed in a number of performances throughout the Chicago area, some which include: Dance Chicago at the Athenaeum Theatre, “The Wiz” at Northwestern University in conjunction with the Make a Wish Foundation, the Opening Ceremonies of World Cup ’94 at Soldiers Field and “We Can Be Ballerina’s Too” at the Regal Theatre. Angie attended Illinois State University on a Track & Field scholarship and minored in dance where she performed with the Illinois State Dance Theatre and Noir Dance Troupe. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts in 2003, she furthered her education by earning a Master’s Degree in Special Education in 2006 and a 2nd Master’s Degree in 2014 in Educational Leadership from Lewis University. Today, Angie is teaching dance at Mayfair Academy in tap, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, combination and contemporary. Angie is currently a Special Education teacher at Metea Valley High School in Aurora. At MVHS, she has served as the Artistic director of Orchesis Dance Company since the doors opened in 2009. Angie loves the joy the dance community brings, and through her choreography and tireless efforts with such talented young dancers is continuously striving to leave a lasting mark on the stage!
Charlyn Scott, Assistant Director
Ms. Scott is a Chicago native, who began her pre- professional dance training at the Joseph Holmes School of Dance under the direction of Randy Duncan and Harriet Ross. She continued with her pre-professional studies at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, the Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center, Joel Hall Dance Center and Ballet Chicago. Ms. Scott has performed as a company member with the Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center, under the direction of Homer Hans Bryant. She has also served as a teaching artist and choreographer for the Chicago Multi-Cultural Dance Center, Southwest Dance Academy, Gallery 37 and National Youth Sports Program. She now serves as a teaching artist and choreographer for the Fox Valley Park District’s Steppin’ Out Dance Studio and instructs students ages 3-18 years in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Lyrical, Pointe and Strength/Conditioning. Ms. Scott also works as the Artistic Director with the Fox Valley Park District’s A- Factor dance Company. She is instrumental in directing the Company’s Winter and Summer Dance concerts that are held at the Prisco Community Center, as well as A- Factor’s Competition Season. In conjunction with working at the Fox Valley Park District, she also holds the Assistant Director position for the Orchesis Dance Company at Metea Valley High School in Aurora, IL. Ms. Scott is an alumni of Barat College by DePaul University, where she graduated with honors in Dance and obtained her BFA in Ballet, Modern and Jazz. She enjoys sharing her passion for dance with students of all ages, while being dedicated to being a role model and mentor to her students.
